Pallet is built on the work of others — open geographic data, open-source software, and freely licensed typefaces. This page credits the projects and providers that make the app possible, and notes the licenses their work is shared under.
Maps & geography
Natural Earth. The land, coastlines, lakes, and rivers drawn on Pallet's globe and map tiles are derived from Natural Earth, a public-domain map dataset built by volunteer cartographers and supported by the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS). Natural Earth is free of copyright and may be used without restriction.
OpenStreetMap. Coastlines and shorelines are refined using water-polygon data derived from OpenStreetMap. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
Terrain Tiles. The relief and hillshade shading on the map is rendered from the Terrain Tiles open dataset (Terrarium-encoded elevation), hosted through the AWS Open Data program. That dataset aggregates elevation measurements from public sources including the U.S. Geological Survey, NASA's SRTM mission, and GMTED2010.
Place names & geocoding
GeoNames. The place names, administrative regions, and coordinates Pallet uses to resolve where a package was last scanned come from the GeoNames geographical database. GeoNames data is © GeoNames and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC BY 4.0).
U.S. Census Bureau. U.S. cities, towns, and county subdivisions are supplemented with the U.S. Census Bureau Gazetteer Files, a work of the United States federal government in the public domain.
Weather
Apple Weather. Weather data provided by Apple Weather. Forecasts and the underlying data sources are subject to Apple's attribution requirements — see the full list of data sources at weatherkit.apple.com/legal-attribution.html.
Maps in the app
Apple Maps. In-app maps, satellite imagery, and Look Around are provided by Apple Maps via MapKit. Apple Maps' own attribution and legal notices are shown within the map view itself.
Carrier tracking
17TRACK. Multi-carrier tracking status is aggregated through 17TRACK. The underlying shipment events — scans, timestamps, and locations — originate with the shipping carriers themselves.
